Removal of Hedge in Chalton

On 12 September 2014 residents in Chalton were disturbed by the noise of a JCB digger close to 36 and 38 Blunham Road. On investigation it was found that the entire hedgerow and trees that were in place along the southern boundary of Blunham Road between the Hollington's property at 36 and the Wyatt's property at 38 had been uprooted and completely destroyed. It is said that the field behind the hedge has been purchased by the Anderson family but it is not yet known what their intentions are. The field connects with the builder’s yard owned by Stephen Anderson behind 26 and 28 Blunham which has been the subject of recent planning applications.

Central Bedfordshire Council has looked into the matter and their Tree and Landscape officer has visited the site and confirmed that a historic hedgerow had been removed, and that the owner is now required to plant a replacement. The hedge has since been replanted.
