Local historian and writer

Keith Lawrence grew up and went to school in Moggerhanger. He is so strongly attached to the village that he has produced a short book called Early Memories from which you can soak up the flavour of life in Moggerhanger in the middle years of the 20th century.

Keith has generously given permission to reproduce the book in full and to display the line drawings he did as illustrations. Thanks to Chris Bashford and Judith & Tony Mooney we can now bring you the internet version of his earlier publication.

This is what Keith has to say in his introduction:

Early Memories of the Moggerhanger Scene

A journey through the village brought back recollections of people, of events and of changes to the village that have left no visual trace of that bygone scene.

They are reminiscences, nostalgia and my own view of how things were. It also contains events, described to me by others and if my recall has deviated from fact, or another’s point of view, then I apologise.

I’ve tried to embrace the village as a whole, however, there are obviously going to be many gaps that only others can fill. Hopefully, my sketches and drawings of the area in and around the village will nurture the memories of others. I also hope that my artistic licence has captured the scene of the village of that time; they show views that are predominately mine. I hope they are representative enough to give others a brief flash-back to a Moggerhanger of yesteryear.
