Our bus shelter was demolished by a runaway car in May 2012. Following requests by the Parish Council and many parishioners, the new shelter has been designed to be almost identical to and totally in keeping with its predecessor.

Jubilee Commemoration Bench

The 2012 Jubilee Fete, held on the Recreation Field, raised almost £500 which has been used by the Parish Council in response to popular request to erect a bench in the Children’s Playground.

Visibility at Road Junction - Blunham Road and Station Road

The Parish Council have persuaded the Highways Department to prune the trees at the junction of Blunham Road and Station Road (often called the grass triangle) to improve visibility and safety.

Road Grit for Residents

The Road Grit/Salt that is in the yellow roadside container near the junction of St John’s Road and Park Road is provided for any resident to use to help clear their paths etc. of ice and snow.

Manhole Covers

We have now managed to get the manhole covers reset and repaired and hopefully this should help quieten some of the clattering from traffic on the A603.

You may also note that I have, at last, managed to get the bottle-bank emptied and the Advertising Banner moved inboard slightly to allow better visibility to oncoming traffic from the Bedford direction.

Road Safety

Following the Parish Council meeting on 18 Sep 13 Parish Councillor Robert Anderson agreed to trim back the overhanging trees and shrubbery that obstructs vision when driving from Station Road, Blunham toward the Blunham Road.

SERVICES AND HIGHWAY PROBLEMS 2014

DRAINS & OVERHANGS TO PATHWAYS

At the Parish Council meeting of 21 May 2014 various problems regarding drains, overhanging branches on walkways and street lighting faults were highlighted. Some aspects of these had been discussed for many months, even years. It was requested by the Chairman and Councillor Turner that a definitive list be made to assist the necessary remedies. Initial details are available here.

New Dog Control Orders

Four new Dog Control Orders have been made by Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) which came into force on 19 Oct 14. The new Orders apply in Moggerhanger Parish and extend the scope of previous dog controls and widen the responsibilities of any person in charge of a dog.

Failure to observe the new orders can incur a penalty up to £1000. Alternatively, the opportunity to pay a Fixed Penalty Notice of £80 may be offered in place of prosecution. This can be reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.

You can read all about the new Dog Control Orders on CBC’s website at http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/. The Orders can be found under Health and Social Care / Community Safety / Anti-social behaviour (ASB) / Dog Control Orders. Alternatively you can go direct to them by clicking here.

Moggerhanger Parish Council fully supports the new Dog Control Orders and encourages people in charge of dogs to familiarise themselves with the new requirement which go well beyond what they will know already.

News

CHAIRMAN

Paul Petrie stood down from the chair at the meeting in January 2015 due to his work commitments.  As vice chairman, Chris Bashford will be taking over this position until the first meeting after the election in May 2015.

NEW ROADSIDE GRIT CONTAINER

Please note that the Village has a new road salt container situated near the Pink House at South Mills at the end of Blunham Road.  This is for the village and residents are welcome to use some of this grit when necessary during icy conditions.  The other grit container is situated by the duck pond in St John’s Road.

Traffic

The Village Speedwatch team have been active during early February.  A semi-portable display unit was supplied by the police for use during Feb 2nd through 7th.

An automated count unit was recently sited in the Bedford Road and a surprise count of over 90,000 vehicle movements was recorded for the week on a 24/7 basis.  This figure was actually provided by the police themselves so the checks done by the Parish Council have been well supported.

A speed camera was on the A603 during March 2015 and it is hoped to resite it to a better position before it is commissioned

Children’s Play Area

The Children's Play Area is now open.  The new surface is rubberised bark with a bonding resin and looks very smart.  Thanks go to Peter Dean who has organised the work to be done.  The project has been funded by The Big Lottery with a donation from Moggerhanger Parish Council.
