ALFRED EDWARD HOBBS
During the time that I have known him Sergeant Hobbs has been performing duties of a British NCO in a Battery of West African Soldiers. He has made a real success of this responsible duty, which calls for not only for drive and capability but also for a more exacting standard of personal example than is required in a European unit. He always tackled a new problem willingly and cheerfully, however unaccustomed and whether in the sphere of duty or sport. He was unfailingly loyal to his officers, and he was obeyed, respected and liked by his African Soldiers. He took a keen part in the sport of the Battery.
